RHWL won the international invited competition to design the National Theatre for the Government of Syria. This major cultural complex contains specialist auditoria for drama and opera in association with a music and drama school, complete with lecture rooms and a library.

The architectural concept grew out of a response to the historical context and cultural traditions of the ancient Arab city of Damascus, and yet reflects the aspirations of a forward-looking country.
