105 Wigmore Street reception
The entrance sequence to this speculatve office developemnt is dramatic. A two storey, 18m wide glazed screen and a clear glass canopy greet the visitor. The reception area is approached via an illuminated glass bridge. Inside, a sweeping glas wall, incrementally-tilting, curves away through the double-height space towards a sculptural wall of Jerusalem limestone.
The strong sense of movement is generated by a number of design elements: the faceted form of the internal glass wall, the division of the volume into single and double height spaces and the soffit arcs of the recessed ceiling lighting.
The feature wall continues the theme of facet and tilt but contrasts in texture and weight. Made of large, thick polished pieces of split rock, it appears to emerge from the surrounding smooth wall and floor. The placement of the lighting emphasises the change in texture.
The honed green slate floor changes to a flamed finish at the desk and seating area, defining the various areas of use.
