Waterford Theatre Royal

The Waterford Theatre Royal is a Victorian (1874) theatre occupying part of the city’s Georgian Town Hall of (1875). Arts Team radically redefined the auditorium. A state-of-the-art performance infrastructure and new ventilation strategy were installed, together with a refurbishment that is sympathetic to the building’s heritage and now includes a degree of neutrality which contemporary auditoria require. Arts Team worked in collaboration with Waterford based Wigham McGrath and Partners, whilst each practice had responsibility for particular areas and aspects of the refurbishment, the project was a genuine collaboration.
Villa Mumm – Office

Won through competition, RHWL designed this complex 6,900m² scheme near Frankfurt as the European headquarters of a major US investment fund management company. It links a19th Century villa with a new three storey office development. A pedestrian link set into the contours of the landscape provides an umbilical cord between the two. The listed villa – which was once owned by the Mumm champagne family – has been restored and acts as the front door to the scheme.

Prizewinning concept for a new headquarters for electricity company AHK in Larnaca, Cyprus. Our concept proposal is a striking formation in stone and glass that seems to push up from the earth. The relationship to site context, access, local and global environmental issues all informed the evolution of the scheme. The scheme was commended because it fulfilled a very complex brief which included sustainability, seismic forces and the mixture of private and public use.

Won through competition for German publisher Axel Springer in Berlin, Germany. The project consists of the Axel Springer Tower — a listed building that has been retained — and a new 50,000m² low rise mixed use building housing bars, restaurants and shops with 41,000m² of offices above. The buildings are linked the Ullstein-Halle. This hall normally functions as circulation space but can be transformed to host major events. We also designed the interiors of 3 bars and restaurants.

Conversion of a listed building in Glashütte, Germany, into a showroom and production facility for TUTIMA watch manufacturer. The exterior of the renovated building is refined by steel-framed windows and a new minimalistic entrance canopy. By removing all floors in one third of the building, we created a triple-volume space accommodating reception and showroom, which is crossed by a high-level bridge above leading to a look-out. The glass floor in the exhibition lounge allows visitors to observe the production of watches in the workshop below.

Arts Team collaborated with Daniel Libeskind on this 2100-seat lyric theatre in Dublin, on behalf of Ramford and LiveNation. Our role was to develop detailed design of the auditorium, stage house and backstage areas, including overall site supervision and coordination with design team consultants and contractors. For the auditorium we chose a palette of reds and dramatic house lighting redolent of the glamour of West End venues. Our concept for 3 tiers with stepping side boxes gives coherence and sense of intimacy.
