This major cultural building contains a 1500 seat opera house, 750 seat flexible and multipurpose theatres as well as 2 music halls, lecture rooms and library, forming part of the School of Music and Drama. The architectural concept of diagonal and orthogonal forms grew from a response to the historic and cultural traditions of Damascus.

Energy City Headquarters
Subpages
Competition design for a headquarters in the heart of Doha’s Energy City Qatar masterplan. RHWL’s concept is based on a sphere representing the natural resources which give up their energy to keep society and the economy of the world alive. The domed envelope is structurally perfect and creates a naturally shaded space; efficient both in terms of engineering and natural cooling. The sphere is interrupted to create an entrance plaza, and cut through to create offices and other functions for ECQ.

RHWL were executive architects of Dr. Kamal El Kafrawi’s concept design on this 250ha site in Doha, providing education and accommodation for 6000 students. The design translates the traditional Middle East wind tower principle into a modern context. Buildings are assembled from an octagonal form (classrooms) and connected with squares (lobbies) to form a modular pattern. Each classroom is linked to at least 2 lobbies. A lobby is used either as meeting place, entrance area or as additional secluded classroom.
